Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise, yet it offers incredible benefits for both body and mind. As a functional health practitioner, holistic nutritionist, and trainer, I always encourage my clients to move more because exercise has so many benefits.

But I recently completed my 28 Day 10K Step Challenge and even I was amazed at how much my own health improved.

Over four weeks, I lost 7 pounds, felt more energized, and saw noticeable improvements in sleep, digestion, stress levels, hydration, and mood by week 2—all from simply walking more.  But the benefits of walking extend far beyond my personal experience.

My Experience After Walking 10K Steps for 28 Days

After completing my 28-day 10K Step Challenge, I can confidently say that this simple habit transformed my health.  No kidding.

I also ONLY did my 10K Step Challenge.  That’s it.   I didn’t diet or change my diet in any way.  I also didn’t do any other other cardio or weight training workouts – I simply followed the 10k Step Challenge guidelines.  The guidelines my my 10k Step Challenge

The biggest improvements I noticed included:

  • Weight Loss – I lost 7 pounds and felt more toned, especially in my legs.  By Day 14 my boyfriend said I was looking more toned.
  • More Energy – My daily energy levels skyrocketed, making me feel more productive.
  • Better Sleep – I fell asleep faster and woke up feeling refreshed.
  • Reduced Stress – Walking became my go-to for relaxation and stress relief.
  • Improved Digestion – My bloating disappeared, and my gut felt healthier.
  • Better Hydration – I naturally drank more water throughout the day.
  • Happier Mood – Walking gave me a huge mood (dopamine) boost, leaving me feeling happier and more optimistic and focused. I feel way more motivated to keep accomplishing more and attacking things on my to-do list.

And honestly it was so nice!

After the step challenge was over it felt weird to have a ‘day off’.  I’m organically motivated and actually want to walk now.  I look forward to it.  I’ve since reintroduced weight training into my routine but I’m still walking 4-6 miles a day.  I love it.

If you’re looking for an easy, free, and effective way to improve your health, walking is it.
